No matter what part of Maryland you live in, this week is just packed with great events for anyone looking to rub elbows or talk shop with colleagues over your favorite cold beverage. Get lots of rest now because starting Wednesday the week heats up with BioBuzz (@BioBuzzMd), followed by Science in the City and then BioBeers to close things out on Friday afternoon. What’s great about these events is that they all draw a slightly different crowd and cover all three of Maryland’s Bio-regions; Montgomery County, Baltimore & Frederick.
BioBuzz kicks off the three day networking blitz on Wednesday evening with the monthly BioBuzz happy hour hosted at Stella Restaurant in Rockville. Aside from a short 3-5 minute announcement and introduction of the sponsor, the event has no set program so the crowd of around 100 can enjoy networking in a very relaxed atmosphere. This month’s sponsor, The Maryland Stem Cell Research Fund (@MSCRF), will be there to discuss their upcoming Maryland Stem Cell Research Symposium taking place this October 4-5th in Annapolis. They will also be able to talk to candidates about the current Program Manager job opening for the new Maryland Innovation Initiative at TEDCO. The weather should be great so come out and enjoy a nice glass of wine or a cold beer on Stella’s open patio or bar area.
Then on Thursday it’s time to get social in Baltimore for Science In The City at the UM BioPark (@UMBiopark). It’s where bio-minded people meet up to nosh and network on the outdoor patio with live music by DeMerris. Join the BioPark tenants and others from around the region for this “special” Science in the City in honor of BioPark Tenant Paragon Bioservices (@ParagonBio) CEO Marco Chacón who was recently listed among PharmaVoice “100 of the Most Inspiring People” and recent winner of the 2012 CMO Leadership Award! This is the go-to event to meet up with anyone in Baltimore’s Biotech scene or from across Maryland, and this event should draw an even bigger crowd out to raise a glass to Marco and Paragon Bio.
If by Friday you’ve still got some gas in the engine, then you better use it to drive out to Frederick and finish the Bio-Networking Trifecta with BioBeers. BioBeers is one of Maryland’s longest running networking events celebrating Frederick’s Biotech community and once you get there you’ll see why. There is always a great crowd enjoying a casual atmosphere, interesting conversations and of course, nice cold beer. BioBeers is being hosted at Bridgepath Scientific (@Bridgepathsci) located at 4841 International Blvd Frederick, MD 21703., and is being sponsored by the iWIN group of Life Technologies (again!) and a new sponsor, the Chesapeake Bay Area Chapter of ISPE.
So no matter what part of the State you live in or what day you’re free, there’s no excuse for you not to get out and culture some new relationships or rekindle some old ones at one of these three great events; and for those of you who can hack it, get out to all three!
